Sunday Morning’s message 20th April 2025

Leader: Please choose what best suits your group and fits the time well. You do not need to discuss every question. Choose two or three areas to discuss. Have fun Jesus People!

Scripture Focus: Matthew 28:1–10

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

Leader: As we reflect on the resurrection of Jesus, let’s take a moment to talk about what “resurrection life” actually means for us, right here and now.

Read the Story Together - Matthew 28:1–10

Jesus is risen, the tomb is empty, and the women are told: “He is not here; for He is risen, as He said.”

Discussion

THE EMPTY TOMB:

“He is not here; for He is risen, just as He said.”

  • Why do you think the women came to the tomb expecting to find a dead Jesus?

  • Have you ever found yourself spiritually “looking in the wrong place” for life or hope?

Sometimes we go back to the tomb—places of our past, guilt, or loss—when Jesus is calling us forward into life.

RESURRECTION PROMISES:

The resurrection fulfils a promise—Jesus said it would happen.

  • What promises from God have been meaningful in your life?

  • Is there a promise you need to hold onto today?

Some Promises to Reflect On:

Forgiveness: 1 John 1:9 -  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

New life:

2 Cor 5:17 -  Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:[a] The old has gone, the new is here!

His presence:

John 14:16 - And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever

Healing:

Isaiah 53:5 -But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

There are so many more…..

Life to the Full

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)

  • What does “life to the full” look like for a follower of Jesus?

  • Are there areas in your life where you feel more like you're surviving than really living?

Jesus Is the Way

Read: John 14:6

In today’s world, people say there are many paths to truth. As believers we know the is not the truth.

  • What does this statement from Jesus really mean?

  • How do we walk in that truth daily?

Wrap-Up Thought

Leader: The resurrection isn’t just an event—it’s an invitation to all people. Jesus invites us to leave the tomb behind and walk in new life, with Him. We’re not meant to hang out in graveyards of our past—but to move forward, knowing He’s alive and with us.

Prayer Time

Pray for hearts to grasp the reality of resurrection life. Pray for boldness to leave behind dead things and walk forward in faith. Invite personal prayer needs from the group
